What is the Temporal Bone Consortium?

The Human Temporal Bone Consortium for Research Resource Enhancement is a cooperative agreement between the National Institute for Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and the Otopathology Laboratories at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI), The House Ear Institute (HEI), and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). The Consortium was established in 2006 using the U24 funding mechanism from NIDCD.

The Goals of the Consortium are to:

  1. Improve and enhance methodologies for processing human temporal bones, including the use of immunoassays, DNA and RNA assays and mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis.
  2. Promote sharing of tissues and technologies.
  3. Promote the recruitment and training of new investigators.
